Wise Woman series

What makes a woman wise? I come from a long line of wise women and recently as I continue to grow spiritually, professionally and in age I see the value in slowing down and learning from their lives and gleaning more from my own life lessons and experiences.

As my art continues to grow and I continue to expand and explore new opportunities I feel like more than ever it is important for me to find my own voice as an artist, a teacher, a friend, a woman and a mother.  Who am I? What am I saying or expressing through my art and my life?  More and more the answer is leaning towards my art is a reflection of who I am as who I am as a woman and all that encompasses.  Where I have come from, who has influenced me and who I find myself influencing seems to be the people in my life.

I have two children of my own, a daughter and a son.  They come to me as a strong mother to guide them and lead them.  As I mature and grow older I see the value in also growing wiser.  It is a responsibility in a sense to honor the hard work and lessons learned from the women who came before me.  I also feel a sense of duty to be wise and strong for my children who will glean knowledge from my experiences and the examples I set as I navigate this crazy, difficult and beautiful life.

So, what is a wise woman and how does one become wise?  I believe it is a culmination of all her experiences in life.  The good, the bad, the joyous!  How she embraces each of these moments and what she gleans, lets go of  and learns from is ultimately what will make her wise.  Every moment is a part of her journey and will tell her story.

This is the beginning of a series I hope to expand upon. These are the beginning sketches and small watercolor studies that will ultimately turn into paintings. I’m very much in love with this character that actually came to me in a dream.  My mother said she reminds her of her mother, my Grandma. I see her as perhaps the future me.

What do you see in this character I dreamed up?  I have so many ideas and sketches still left to put on paper.  That is an exciting feeling!  There is a large amount of symbolism in each piece that only I would recognize.  However, my hope is that each viewer will connect with my wise woman personally. (I you ask Ill be glad to share some details.)  I can’t wait to see her come to life on canvas and for her stories to be told.

I welcome your feedback…let me hear from you.
